Why I quit fostering
Переглядів 22 тис.28 днів тому
It's taken me a while to film this video, as I wanted to be both in the right headspace when I filmed it, and also film it in a way I was happy with. I hope you enjoy this insight into why I personally decided to leave fostering, and how I feel the system needs to change to give our most vulnerable children the care they deserve. Before becoming a solo mum, think about this...
As someone who tends to fit jnto the stereotype of asexuality (aromantic, sex-repulsed, does not want to be in a partnered relationship or have children) I love hearing from people who sit on different parts of the ace spectrum than I do. We really are a diverse community. It's so silly, but coming out as Ace really does open you up to invasive questions about your personal sexual life. In that way, I worry that being out at work will just lead to more conversations about sex and not less. To be single and not actively seeking a partner is quite controversial in today's world.

Thank you so much for this video, I really love when non-ace centric channels talk about asexuality because it really shows the diversity of ace lives
Great video 👍❤️ I came out last year as ace at the age of 48, I identify on the asexual spectrum but I just say I identify as asexual. I used to think there was something wrong with me, and then I watched a few UA-cam videos and finally things started to make sense. I am ace and proud 😎 I think I would like to meet someone but being ace it might prove to be tricky, also I am happy being single again at the moment.

I haven't watched this video yet (I will soon), so my question is unrelated. I'm assuming you've gotten this question a lot by now, but I was wondering what you thought of the story that is presented in the Netflix documentary about the dude that supposedly fathered 1000 (or more) kids as a sperm donor. Have you seen it? Your comments? Inquiring minds would like to know! It would be cool if you could do an episode about it.
i look up to you so much. i’m 29 married and always considered myself asexual. for so long i just thought something was wrong with me.
Is it normal to be an ACE woman and wear make up for myself and not men?
you don't have to define yourself in any particular way :) categories are just there to help with concise communication. there is no 'normal' <3
Thanks for spotlighting and sharing info on our sexuality.
It seems crazy that for you to be a parent, you had to spend a huge amount of money. When other people can just go out, have sex and poof bun in the oven. It should be a lot cheaper.
your honesty and openness is so valuable❤ i always learn so much from every one of your videos

Thank you so much for making this video Bryony! Just a few weeks ago I figured out that I am somewhere on the ace spectrum and the whole thing has been very confusing and overwhelming to me. This q&a has been immensely helpful, please keep talking about asexuality 💜
Same! Literally been so confused the last few weeks trying to figure this stuff out ❤
@@sjwells04 Glad to hear I’m not alone 😅 wishing you all the best 💜🤍🩶
Another opportunity to learn more about some of my favorite people. Thank you for everything you do. I am so proud of how you have diversified your channel and I get to learn so much but also just get to know you better!

I wonder if he had gas caught
I've been following since early in your UA-cam journey and have only recently come to terms with the fact that I'm ace-spec and am planning to be a single mom by choice in a couple of years, following your journey with it has given me so much confidence in my own plan😊
I work full time in an average sized company.. We have 10 branches over South Africa. However I'm the only bookkeeper Head Office has... If I'm sick I still need to do it at some point, it's just behind 🤦🏻♀️ so it's not always better... At least I'll still get paid though... And you can feel proud about breastfeeding for that long! I stopped after 3 or 4 days 🤦🏻♀️😂
I’m so sorry, this is awful. I work for the NHS and in the process of leaving my current place because the professional standards are shocking. I really come to realise working there that ratings matter and management are everything. Luckily I can go back to my previous place which is a completely different attitude, not perfect but striving to improve.
Would love a video on any processes you have to streamline your day. I have two littles and find it so hard getting out the door and getting stuff done, and I have a husband helping me. I imagine you have had to develop some strategies since you can’t just pass the baby to someone else. Always looking for different methods to try out to make the daily grind easier.
This is so relatable. I’m not asexual but I am aromatic and I don’t feel like I am missing a partner in parenting. But I do have interest in having a baby through a friend or sexual partner.
Glad you feel better
When you're sick it can male your milk taste different for them so that may have been the issue too Edit: You just mentioned this after I commented it!
Food poisoning usually comes on quickly after eating the bad food... I was thinking you probably had a bug. The dairy situation is a whole other issue possibly! I'm sorry you've been so sick! Covid is definitely going back around here in the states too!
I got stomach bug symptoms with Covid, like I genuinely thought I had norovirus but I tested positive for Covid and normal flu like symptoms started couple days later
Yeah, I'd say COVID, too. It's got so many weird variants and affects people so many different ways. Be careful. Have your blood monitored if it was that, because I have lost a couple of friends now since they have gotten COVID to throwing clots. It's not really a minor thing, as much as people want it to be.
I'm glad you're feeling better.
Im glad your mental health wss not affected by weaning. Im amazed when i hear about kids who self wean like that. Mine is 3 yrs and 4 months. Finally night weaned and sleeping through night for the first time ever. Glad things are smoothing out for you.
Hi, so glad your feeling better! Loving the casual chatty series you are doing. I know in the past you have talked a lot about the Uk education system and being 'unschooled' and wondered what your plan were for your son moving forward?☺
Love the causal chatty videos. So happy to see you wherever you are at. Sending love and healthy vibes from Minnesota ❤
All of you had been feeling sick, maybe he was feeling sick too and that's why he screamed for so long? I hope you're all feeling much better now ❤
I relate to you so much - i love your channel it feels like I'm listening to a friend. I love the casual chatty catch up videos. I've also been sick the last 3 weeks with similar symptoms and now i thinking could of it been covid! I have ME/CFS and a few years ago it was really bad so i really relate to the feeling of, is this going to my new normal! Its so scary! xxx
I understand the part where you're worried about being poorly for a prolonged period. I had progressive kidney failure until it came to a head last year and I needed a double nephrectomy and the fatigue is horrendous. I also had a newborn at the same time, which was unfortunate timing. I luckily had a kidney transplant at the end of summer of last year and my immune system is so low that I pick up everything and the thought of going back to last year is a worry. Particularly as viruses can affect kidney function. I find it easier to take each day at a time and not to rush myself but also reach out to my medical team. Hopefully you have a team you can reach out to too, even just for reassurance. Sending lots of love!
Just to add I am thankfully better now! This was filmed a couple weeks ago x
Maybe you could get a part time employed job, thrn build an emergency fund. 3 to 6 months is usually a good amount.
COVID can cause diarrhea.
Good to see you sweetie. I hope you feel better and get everything you need to do done. 😊😊😊❤.
Pretty sure I had the same virus as you, also think it was covid, it also upset my stomach, and as a chronic illness recoverree i also spiralled!! It's terrifying isn't it, I just find fatigue completely impossible to deal with on an emotional level
Domperidone’s an antiemetic (i have it on prescription, wonder drug for me), i wonder if the extreme nausea was exacerbated by stopping taking it? Glad you’re brighter now xx
The way that first bite of my dinner slowly fell out of my mouth when you mentioned to not watch this video while eating. Thanks for the heads up 😂😅 now to put the dinner aside til after the video haha
😂
You've no idea how much I laughed at reading this comment. I could actually picture it. 😂😂
I hope you have a better run of good health now 🤞
Sounds like the baby had gas pains
What I find so fascinating and really under studied and spoken about is the matrescence - the transition from maiden to mother… so interesting and I think it underlines all the changes in career, socially etc we experience as mothers!
When i had Covid back in October 21 my first symptom was diarrhoea terrible stomach cramps. So i had no idea it was Covid until my child tested positive. I was told by hospital stomach was a very common area to be affected. I couldnt hydrate and it affected my kidneys All better now though
I got really sick on my stomach with Covid at the start too, I thought it was a stomach bug but I tested positive for Covid after the next day respiratory symptoms started
They’re not always the same! My first 2 were miserable, my last 2 I was barely sick ever. Some do have the exact same experience every time but I’ve heard from more people that each one is different.
Proper parenthood consists of a father and a mother.Period.
So sorry you are feeling so bad. There is nothing worse than being sick and trying to look after a little one. You are the second UK based UA-camr that I follow who has food poisoning, Mike from TA Outdoors is also really sick to the point of being on IV antibiotics. I hope you recover quickly.
In my experience the adjustment to parenthood depended heavily on personality. I decided to wait and became a mum at 29 and I don’t feel like it’s a huge adjustment for a few reasons; firstly, my career started much later (post grad school), I’m a very introverted homebody, and being a caretaker is something that I find enjoyment in. I think the difficultly comes into the juxtaposition between your natural tendencies versus what parenthood requires.
‘I’m not an arsehole’. Properly made me lol 😂
I actually don’t believe in nursing strikes. They biologically don’t make any sense😅 refusing the boob for a few feeds is ok, but not for a longer time. I think it’s nipple confusion 🤷🏽♀️ it can happen at any moment and can get better/worse with time. The only way to avoid the “nursing strike” is to not offer any bottles, pacifiers or anything he can suck on (like straws). You can offer the formula with an open cup or spoon bottle. These methods don’t cause any problems with nursing.
You should do a French Eurocamp holiday
Do people generally use the term ‘nurse’ in the uk?
I do worry about your well-being having this situation where you can make any noise, move around it have any light on when Oryn is asleep. I also worry for myself if I ever have a child lol. Is there no way you can gradually introduce more noise and light while he’s asleep? It sounds extremely impractical for him to go to sleep at 6pm and that be it noise and light wise for you
